Day 3 - Black Fettuccine?

I have no idea what happened.  I KNOW I scheduled it for the AM.  *sigh*

Great.  Another morning.  Another day.  I hope hope hope that today isn't negative like yesterday was.  I CAN.NOT deal with another day like yesterday.  I will literally curl up in the fetal position and just cry.  Consequently, I wasn't saying a whole heck of a lot today.  When you wake up to this in your room:

and

How can it really be a bad day?  Right?  I'm seriously trying to stay positive today.  Thankfully, it paid off.  There were more interviews and *cue angels singing*  we found the HOLY GRAIL!  That ONE piece of paper that makes this whole trip worth while!  *insert cartwheels and happy dancing*  The weight of the world is off my shoulders.  Of course, it COULD be open to interpretation but it is the basis for the reason behind the way things have been handled.  Please be a good day?  Please?  It has such promise!!

And V has returned to the office and has agreed to take me and E to Agave Azul.  I can't wait!  BUT that's tomorrow night.

I return to staring at some spreadsheets today.  I am doing an analysis of some reports that were submitted to see if I can find the flaw in the "findings" of the report.  I think I know how to do it, I just need to gather the evidence to prove our point.

Lunch was at Crepes and Waffles.  I had the Caprino: sauteed mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, fresh tomatoes, pesto, and mozzarella.  YUM!

I really liked the crispy, cheesy crepe wrapper for the delicious sauteed mushrooms and creamy, fresh, mozzarella.  I think I will have to play when I get home with putting some cheese in a crepe batter before cooking it.  I wonder if it would even work?  I ate about half of it after a nice bowl of salad that I started with.  LOVES me some hearts of palm and baby corns.  I could seriously just open a can of baby corn and eat them all.

The rest of the afternoon seemed to go slow.  I think it has something to do with the fact that even though my computer is logged into local time, it's still on home time.  That's throwing me off quite a bit here.  I mean, I thought it was time to go at 4:30 because my computer said 5:30.  I guess I was too hopeful.

OH and I did find out that if I hide my slippers, I can get another pair!  Who knew?  I mean, I could have been RAKING IN on the last trip!  *shrugs*  Good to know for next time.  Cause I'm sure this isn't going to be the last time I come down here.  It's like extended family and almost everyone I talk to asks WHEN I'm coming back.  Not IF but WHEN.  It does make me feel better that the people down here really do appreciate what *I* do.  Not that I'm not appreciated in my own office...just this trip has really beat me up.

Tonight was dinner with J from another agency.  I had initial contact with him last year I think?  Maybe it was longer.  Anyway, I wasn't sure how to take him the first time I heard from him, but he's a dear friend now and I look forward to talking to him when I'm here.  I hope that we can continue the friendship.  He truly is a sweetheart!

He met us at the hotel and we walked up the street to Di Lucca, an Italian restaurant.  I had heard good things about it, but just hadn't been there yet.  I'm glad we went.  The food was excellent!  I looked at the menu a little bit, but zeroed in on...Black Fettuccine.  Yup!  That's right.  I said BLACK fettuccine!  I have NEVER seen it on a menu.  Granted, I haven't been to any expensive restaurants in our area.  Maybe there's some on menus in DC?  Anyway, I just HAD to have it!!

We had this excellent Syrah from Chile, I think?

Antu Ninquen.  It was very nice!  It went surprisingly well with our meals.  They had tilapia pomoddoro.  Apparently it was delicious, but I'm just not a huge tilapia fan.  Now the black fettuccine?  THAT was worth trying!

It definitely had a different taste.  I have always been convinced that you really can't taste the pasta when it's made with something other than flour, but this time, I could!  It was weird.  I didn't like the first bite.  The second...a little better.  The rest?  YUM!  It just had to grow on me a bit.

And the shrimp that is with the pasta is so fresh, and tender, and sweet!  And the olives?  WOW!  I want to buy a jar and eat them all up!!  Not quite a kalamata, but definitely a black olive.  The whole dish was fabulous!

When I first heard about squid ink pasta, I wasn't sure I would be able to eat it because it just...looks...weird.  My mind is totally changed on it though!  I would order it again if it was on the menu.

And finally a little nibble of

and I'm all set for the day.  Yes there is a pattern here.  The dark chocolate orange thing is really appealing to me here this time.  I haven't been able to find the pistachio one that I had the last time.  But they're all super delicious!  Who can complain?
