I miss my mother's cabbage rolls. It seems that no matter how I try to make them, they're just not the same as Moms. *pout* The memories of steaming the cabbage in the microwave, wrapping the sausage and rice stuffing and then putting them in the olde skool pressure cooker topped with tomato soup are comforting. They are one of my favorite comfort foods.
I want the taste of Mom's cabbage rolls, but don't want to spend all that time in the kitchen for something I know I'm the only one who will truly enjoy the meal. I don't think S really likes these...at all. It may have to be something that I give up eventually. *sigh*
*brief anecdote about life*
I order dried vegetables for Missy. She gets 1/2 cup veggies and 1/2 cup kibble twice a day. She's a hefty girl, like her mama. So, we use the veggies for her to feel full, but it's a healthier full than 2 full cups of kibble daily.
I order from the same place each time. Sometimes they have nice freebies if you spend X dollars, which I usually do. And they offer a free ounce of your choice of spices from the list. AND it's free shipping. Can't go wrong with freebies!
Well, on the first I reordered. By that weekend, we hadn't received them, so I checked the tracking. Delivered the 6th? To where? We didn't get it! Check the management office. Nope, no packages. Um...then why did the USPS person leave a note in our box saying we had a package? Why would someone want our dried veggies?
I emailed the shipper. Well, it says it was delivered. Well, I didn't get it. Okay we'll ship another package. This was the 7th. Again, there was a note that we had a package at the management office. We stop by Sunday. Nope. Just one package and NONE of which are veggies. S said the person at the office looked at all the packages as there weren't many in there.
Still no veggies. Missy was getting to be a HUNGRY girl! So, that Sunday, I emailed again and called that Monday. I also called the post office to complain. I mean, they DO write on my mail that I have a package instead of leaving a pink notice in the mail box.
So, after those two calls, I call the management office. Lo and behold! There's TWO, count 'em TWO packages of veggies at the management office. Seriously? So when we went the first time to pick up a package you missed it. When we went a SECOND time to pick up packages you missed not only the first package, but the SECOND ONE?? How blind are you??
So now, there's two erroneous undelivered mail claims at the post office and the shipper is out $30 for the second package. I immediately call them to let them that a third package doesn't need to go out, because the reason we haven't received their shipments is due to lazy people at the management office. *sigh* I paid for the second shipment. Missy will eat them anyway and they're already here.
It's a good thing S went in that Monday. I would have gone APE-S on their arses. I DO NOT tolerate incompetence well... Just sayin. So, from now on, I think I'll have them shipped to work.
This dish has all the flavors I had hoped for. It did taste like Mom's cabbage rolls. The sausage with the turkey bacon and the soup. #NOMZ No, I didn't make the pierogies. These are Mrs T's. I hope you make this easy, weeknight dish and...
Enjoy!
