In continuing with the branching out to Pinterest found recipes, I came across this little gem. I don't know why I haven't seen this before. You'd think with all the blogs, sites, and emails I get I would have seen this at some point or another but....no.
Leave time to allow the juices to evaporate. If not, the buns get REALLY soggy. There is one version that makes a slurry to thicken the juices, but I didn't try that one. Maybe a little tomato paste? *shrugs* I liked this one as it's a "lightened up" version. You could probably make this with ground turkey or chicken, too. Oh yeah...I was lazy and didn't broil the sammies to melt the cheese.
YUM-MY! I am thinking this meat mixture would be a good toss with some elbows. It was so quick and the meat sauce (Great Value A-1) wasn't overpowering at all! I always add a few dashes or worcestershire sauce to any sloppy joes I make. For some reason my palette requires it. Lord knows why... I bought the Sargento pre-sliced provolone cheese and topped the sammies to let the warm meat melt the cheese. Mmmmmm melted cheese.
They were sloppy!! Make sure you have plenty of napkins and a fork to eat what falls off the bun, cause there will be quite a bit. LOL Served with some microwave fries and cole slow. Mmmmm Can't wait for lunch!
